Accessibility aids
Why must websites be accessible to everyone ?
Many users are dependent on a site’s individual adaptability, such as enlarging the script in the browser or providing vocal synthesis for blind persons. The list of existing handicaps is long: motor handicaps, impaired sight, deafness, blindness, etc. Each group comes up against different barriers.
It is precisely these groups of the population which profit most from Internet technologies, because they allow them to participate in society as well as giving them access to information and education/training.
Keyboard shortcuts for rapid access
The following keyboard shortcuts for rapid access are available on all site pages, allowing you to go to a particular element directly :
0 : Accessibility aids
1 : Home page
2 : News
3 : Go to contents
4 : Search
5 : Topics A-Z
7 : Contact
8 : Conditions of use
Depending on the operating system that you use, the way of activating these shortcuts is slightly different. If you have Windows, the rapid access shortcut is generally activated by pressing Alt + key, that is to say you keep the Alt key pressed down while pressing one of the keys listed above. For Macintosh users, this shortcut will generally be Ctrl + key, also by pressing both keys simultaneously. Sometimes you must confirm your choice by then pressing Enter, in particular if you use Internet Explorer. The Opera browser is a special case in that it uses Escape, then Shift + key: first Escape alone, then Shift and the appropriate key simultaneously.
Here is a complete list of the combinations required according to the browser used :
> Internet Explorer under Windows: Alt+number, then Enter
> Mozilla Firefox, Safari and Netscape Navigator under Windows: Alt+number
> Safari, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Netscape Navigator under Macintosh: Ctrl+number
> Opera under all operating systems: Escape, then Shift+number
> Mozilla Firefox and Galleon under Linux: Alt+number
> Conqueror under Linux: Ctrl, then number separately, one after the other
Note 1
These shortcuts do not function with the numeric keypad. You must use the numbers on the alphanumeric keypad.
