Residents’ Registration Office

The Residents’ Registration Office has the purpose of supplying both authorities and public administrations with the basic information they need about the persons who have permanent or temporary residence in the municipality.

The Residents’ Registration Office is authorised to issue :
- identity cards, certificates of domicile

Permanent and temporary residence : for Swiss and foreign nationals

Identity documents : identity card 

 

Permanent and temporary residence

  • Every Swiss or foreign national who has permanent or temporary residence in the municipality must personally announce his/her arrival within fourteen days (articles 5, 6 and 8 LCh)
  • Every change of address of a person who has permanent or temporary residence must be notified by him/her within 30 days (article 6 subsections a and e to g LHR and article 4 paragraph 2 subsection X and article 10 paragraph 1 LCh)
     

1) Swiss nationals and foreign nationals who already reside in the Canton of Fribourg

DOCUMENTS TO PRESENT 
If you wish to have permanent residence in Fribourg : 

  • a certificate of origin for Swiss nationals (to be obtained from your former place of domicile)
  • your residence permit for foreign nationals and/or declaration of arrival the SPOMI
  • your health insurance card
  • your AVS card (AVS = old-age and surviving dependants insurance)
  • your family booklet, or a family document if you are married, or a birth certificate if you have minor children
  • your tenancy agreement if you are a tenant
  • Fee CHF 20.00 per person
  • Certificate of permanent residence (no fee is charged for minor children living with their parents)
     

If you wish to have temporary residence in Fribourg :

  • a certificate of deposit (declaration of domicile) which you obtain from the Residents’ Registration Office of your place of domicile
  • your residence permit for foreign nationals, if need be the authorisation of the Population and Migrants Service for temporary residence outside of the canton of domicile (country outside of the EU/EEA)
  • your AVS card (AVS = old-age and surviving dependants insurance)
  • your tenancy agreement if you are a tenant
  • your family booklet, or a family document if you are married, or a birth certificate if you have minor children
  • Fee CHF 20.00 per person
  • Certificate of deposit (no fee is charged for minor children living with their parents) 

     

If you have moved within the town : 

  • no document is necessary, but please let us know in writing or by e-mail (Contact) and specify the persons in the household concerned by the move.

2) Foreign nationals (particulars) in the case of arrival from another canton or from abroad

Identity documents – identity card

Travelling is good ... with an identity card in your pocket, it is better ! 

Go straightaway to the Residents' Registration Office, Place de l’Hôtel de Ville 3, ground floor, to order your identity card.
